On behalf of Wollongong University Medical Students’ Society (WUMSS), welcome to UOW Graduate Medicine!
Despite our youth as a medical school, UOW Graduate Medicine has established a tradition of graduating academically sound and clinically savvy junior doctors. We believe this reputation can attributed to our small cohort size, which enables students to receive one-on-one mentoring from esteemed physicians and allows us to develop life-long relationships with friends and colleagues.
As your student society, WUMSS’ primary purpose is student advocacy and support. To augment personal and professional development our team looks forward to hosting networking evenings, leading mentoring programs as well as instilling a little healthy competition through interphase sports days. Furthermore as the liaison between cohorts and faculty, WUMSS’ seeks to advocate on behalf of our student body with respect to the curriculum and phase specific agendas. Continuing the precedent of previous leaderships, our 2018 committee is motivated to refine the culture of UOW Graduate Medicine at both at a local level within the Illawarra community and on the national stage through AMSA.
Finally, no matter where we are on our medical journey, we will all undoubtedly experience triumphs and tribulations. When the going gets tough, please talk to someone, whether it be a mate, one of the University support and counselling resources (see above) or a member of WUMSS – regardless of cohort or primary campus we at UOW Graduate Medicine are united as a team.
Once again, welcome to UOW Graduate Medicine – I look forward to meeting you all!
